Meet the People Corporation Team
John Shoniker, BA, REBC
Vice-President
John is responsible for leading the consulting initiatives of new product introductions, integrating group and health insurance. He is responsible for product design and packaging of integrated solutions and employee benefit product modules. He is also involved in the development and design of all People Corporation proprietary benefits product initiatives.
John began his career in benefit consulting in the group division of a large Canadian insurer. 3 years later, in 1998, he joined a national consulting company where he grew and developed benefit sales in Southern Ontario. John was subsequently promoted to Marketing Consultant where he partnered with associates and their clients to provide creative solutions to meet their group benefits needs. John has continued to demonstrate his ability to meet challenges head-on as evidenced by his promotions, first as Director and most recently as Vice-President.
John received his Honours Degree, majoring in Economics and History at the University of Waterloo in 1995. He holds a Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC) designation, is a member of Advocis, the Conference for the Advancement of Life Underwriting (CALU) and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP).
John is often called upon to speak to client groups regarding group benefits trends and opportunities. John and his team operate out of the People Corporation office in Cambridge, Ontario.
Melanie Levesque
Client Manager
As an integral part of the Senior Management Team at People Corporation, Melanie is responsible for all the day to day financial and operational duties relating to the effective management of the client’s and team members’ needs. Melanie has demonstrated an effective ability to proactively “seek first to understand” and subsequently coordinate and execute all client and operational needs.
Melanie began her career over 10 years ago with a large Canadian insurer where she held both customer service and underwriting roles. She then joined one of Canada’s largest national consulting groups where her role was that of Benefits Consultant, focusing on both business development and persistency. She now reports directly to the Vice-President as Client Manager.
In her spare time, Melanie enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as maintaining an active lifestyle through sports and physical conditioning.
Anne Nicholls, BA, GBA, CEBS
Senior Account Executive
Anne is responsible for the ongoing financial and administrative management of her associates and their clients as it relates to group life and health insurance products and services. One of Anne’s passions in addition to being an advocate of both associates and their clients is that of a lobbyist for the employees of those corporate clients as well. This involves acting on an employee’s behalf, to navigate through the various government programs as well as corporate affairs departments and pharmaceutical companies.
Anne began her career as an underwriter for a large Canadian insurer. She progressed through various departments with her final role being, Underwriting Consultant Corporate Accounts. In 1993, Anne moved to the marketing department of the same company where for the next 6 years, grew that division of responsibility from 22 million to 50 million of premium under management. In 1999, Anne joined a national consulting company responsible for the retention and ongoing financial and relationship management of a large block of South Western Ontario associates and their clients.
In her spare time, Anne works with the elderly housed in senior living centers. She also takes part in activities with young children and enjoys cooking for friends and family.
Lisa Howie, BA, GBA, CEBS
Senior Client & Marketing Service Representative
Lisa is responsible for analyzing benefit data to evaluate the performance of employee benefits programs. She measures the results against industry standards and plan sponsor goals and makes sound underwriting judgments to determine appropriate recommendations. In addition, Lisa provides client support for service and/or benefit inquiries.
She began her career as an underwriter for the corporate accounts division of a large Canadian insurer. 4 years later, in 2006, Lisa joined a national consulting company where she further developed her technical skills and broadened her knowledge of the various products offered in conjunction with traditional group benefits.
Lisa received her Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in Psychology with minors in both Mathematics and Human Resources Management from the University of Waterloo in 2000.
Mary Byrne, BA, Diploma in Business Administration
Group Benefits Underwriting Specialist
As a group benefits professional with an underwriting and technical consulting background, Mary has a passion for strategic problem solving when it comes to your benefits plan. She analyzes benefit data to evaluate the performance of employee benefit programs. She then measures these results against industry standards and plan sponsor goals and makes sound underwriting judgments to determine appropriate recommendations.
Mary began her career as an underwriter with a Canadian insurer over 15 years ago. In 2002, Mary joined a national consulting company where she further developed her technical skills and broadened her knowledge of the various products offered in conjunction with traditional group benefits. She was promoted with additional responsibilities in the training and development of the entire nation-wide technical team.
In her spare quiet time, Mary likes to crochet and cross stitch. She enjoys taking walks and spending time with her family and friends.
